Woman Dies From Coca-Cola
A 30-year-old woman died in February 2010 from lack of potassium in the blood. She had been drinking 10 liters of Coca-Cola every day. Her family said that she was addicted, and if she stopped drinking the Coca-Cola, she would go through withdrawal, or shaking. She even had to get her teeth removed because the sugar had caused so much decay. One of her eight children was actually born without enamel. This was a cause of the mother's addiction to Coke. Because of her addiction, her heart was beating too fast or too slow. Drinking that much Coca-Cola is the same amount as 2 lbs of sugar and 970 mg of caffeine. Doctors say that if she hadn't been addicted to Coca-Cola, she wouldn't have died at that age or that way. The Coca-Cola company argues with the doctors and states that their soda isn't related to her death. The company says that overconsumption of any food or drink can be harmful. Doctors are wanting soda companies to have clear warnings about overconsumption of soda. I think that Coca-Cola was the reason that she died. Overconsumption of anything could have been harmful, but only the soda would have cause tooth decay and one of her children to be born without enamel. What are your thoughts on the article?

I personally think that there is no possible way a law suit could come up with Coca-Cola, for it was an addiction. In my opinion, that's like saying I was drinking and driving, got in an accident, and became paralyzed. I can't blame the company of the beer I drank, or the maker of the car I was driving. I was in the wrong, and that's all there is to it. And that's my opinion on this case too.
ReplyDeletePeople these days want to get money in some way. Am i going to die if a drink to much dr. pepper? They should get money for something she CHOSE to do. That just my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Coca-Cola is to blame here. They warn you about overconsumption so its her fault that she didn't take the warnings into consideration. She made the decision to drink that much pop knowing that was terrible for you. That's a lot of sugar so it's obviously bad for you. Anyone could of realized that. She could have gotten help or gone to rehab or something. How could you even drink that much pop anyway? That's just disgusting. She had to get her teeth removed and her kid was even born without enamel. That's just sad.
ReplyDeleteThats nuts! I didn't think that you could get that addicted to coke. If you had to have your teeth pulled and one of your children was born with no enamel on its teeth wouldn't you find a way to become unnaddicted. You can't blame coca-cola for it it was her own fault.
ReplyDeletethey cant blame the company she knew she had a problem and she could have done something about it but she didn't. getting her teeth removed and her kid without enamel should've been a wake up call
ReplyDeleteHmm. I'm debating on whether or not her death was caused from her excessive drinking or coca-cola. I mean, pop is terrible for you, and an excessive amount could cause lots of damage, but I wouldn't be so sure that this was the reasoning for her death. I think that if you were a mother and your child had these birth defects and what not, you would definitely find a way to quit. It's such a strange addiction. Almost reminds me of that TV show, My Strange Addiction! How ironic. Clearly, this mother had a mental health problem. Coca-cola would most likely be a minor stimulant to her body, but the effects it's given her makes me think otherwise. Thinking about her child being born without enamel, you really think there would be someway this mother would stop. I feel as though this is just portraying how a small addiction can turn into a major crisis.
ReplyDeleteI agree that this is a little crazy but I find thee only person here to blame should have to been herself for letting her addiction get that far out if control. Any other mother would have stopped to make sure her child was as healthy as he/she could possibly be. I don't think it's a mental health problem as said above, I don't think she's crazy. Addictions to weird things happen all the time and I doubt she is only person on this Earth that has become addicted to a pop and had it cause a fatality.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that there's away you can die from drinking to much pop. I think that she helped it so the the family could help get money.
ReplyDeleteI think one of the main problem people have with excessive eating and drinking, is boredom. We face boredom everyday at least once. She probably drank those cokes because she had nothing else to do.
ReplyDeleteokay yes it is possible that a lawsuit should happen but first they need solid evidence that it happened due to their product but it also should just be dismissed because whenever you eat or drink something too much you can be causing the same thing. Soda is okay in normal amounts. I am a diet coke addict. I can usually drink five cans if I am not planning anything for the day. I think this articles just shows how people are doing things that are obviously dangerous and ignorant.
