Trooper Addresses Gravel Driving
Iowa state trooper Vince Kurtz gives some tips about driving on gravel roads. The speed limit on gravel roads is 55 between sunrise and sunset, and 50 after sunset and sunrise. Motorists are required to maintain control of their vehicle at all times no mater what the surface conditions are. Drivers should watch for washboards and rumblestrips, especially near intersections and during dry times of the year. Watch out for road graders because they will leave a windrow of gravel along the edges and center of the road. Stay on your side of the road. Becareful when going up hills and at intersections because there could be someone coming over the hill or pulling up to the intersection and might not stop. This is especially important when meeting farm equipment and during spring and fall. Tractors and combines can't get over as far as you think they can.
