Super Bowl Power Outage
ESPN.com
Shortly after Beyonce's halftime performance and the kickoff the power in the SuperDome went off. Which was the cause of a 34 minute delay. After investigation into Super Bowl XLVII's blackout the NFL believes that an electrical device installed to prevent a power outage actually caused the blackout in New Orleans. Company officials said the device performed with no problems during January's Sugar Bowl and other earlier events, but has been removed and will be replaced. All systems at the Superdome are now working and the dome will host a major Mardi Gras event Saturday night. The company released a statement on the situation saying; "They are designed to keep a problem they sense from becoming something bigger, like a fire or catastrophic event and that's exactly what it did." Due to trip of power there has now been a $4.2 million dollar plan of upgrades lined up for the SuperDome. The FBI has ruled out the possibility of cyberterrorism as the cause. It was believed to be done by a group like "Anonymous" at first thought.
Personally, it surprises me that something like that would happen when they have done so many months worth of preparation leading up to the big game. At least the NFL can feel a little safer knowing it wasn't a terrorist attempt. Let me know what you think about it.

I thought that the power outage was funny. Everyone watched the Super Bowl that I know of and nobody at the time knew what was going on. I didn't believe it actually happened. What did you think when the lights went out?
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that this happened and that it happened for so long. I understand that it takes awhile for the lights to reheat, but it still was very unfortunate for the players. For an event so big you would think that they would take more precautions of preventing something like this happening. How do you feel about this inconvenience?
