I've read and heard a lot about a man with a million dollar story and that was viewed as a symbol of courage in the face of adversity that turned villainous so fast. If you don't know, Oscar Pistorius, a man from South Africa is a double amputee and he ran in the 2012 Olympics.
He awoke at his home in a gated community in Pretoria, South Africa, during the early hours of Valentine’s Day and went close the door of his balcony. He then heard a strange noise coming from inside his bathroom. The six-time Paralympic gold medalist says he grabbed his 9mm pistol and plodded to the bathroom in the dark, gripped by fear and feeling vulnerable without his prosthetic legs on. Pistorius then fired four shots through the door, believing the person inside was an intruder. It turned out to be his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp, and she was hit three times. He was then charged with premeditated murder.
There are many theories to what actually happened and why he did this. To add a little more drama in the whole ordeal the lead-investigator is being charged with seven counts of murder himself. I encourage you to read more about this and not just one site but many articles and see what you think.
Personally, I think he could of done it in defence since citizens in South Africa have the fear of intruders. It will be interesting to see what the verdict is, what do you think?

This is a very sad case indeed. It will be very interesting to see if it was premeditated or if it really was in self defense. Being South Africa it makes a lot of sense to be afraid of intruders. I look forward to finding out.
ReplyDeleteWell I think he killed her on purpose. Because you don't shoot four times threw a door, and if his house is surrounded by a tall wall and it's probably hard to climb it. So i hardly doubt someone would even try to get in. I really think he was messed up in the head and new what he was doing, and he planned it out. So i don't know if anyone agrees with me but that's what I think.
ReplyDeleteFrom my experience in watching these trials play out over and over again, it is a tough decision to make... although he may be a gold-bearing Olympian, it seems as though the rate as which the trial is going that the verdict will be a guilty plea. His reasoning for shooting through a closed door without first waiting isn't too shabby... many people are killed out of fear alone every day. But for someone to go through so much hardship and so much stress from training, it doesn't seem like he would have much of a motive to kill anyone, really. Perhaps, he did kill her on purpose. But he may also be suffering from some form of post-dramatic stress disorder, either from the amputation, the Olympic training, or any combination of things... and logic would dictate that anyone with such a mental illness would easily get jumpy at a moment's notice. Do I believe he did it for a purpose? No. But he will need to have a lot of luck on his side for him to get off with a non-guilty verdict.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw this on ESPN, I was not only surprised, but disappointed. I had really looked up to the guy before. And now that has all changed.
