I recently read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling. It is the first book in the very popular Harry Potter series. It is about a young boy named Harry who gets a very huge surprise on his 11th birthday. He finds out from a half-giant that he is a wizard! This comes as a shock to Harry because he grew up being the slave of the house to his aunt, uncle, and cousin, who took him in after his parents were killed by the most evil wizard of all time, Lord Voldemort, who also tried to kill Harry, but failed and almost killed himself instead.
The last 11 years, Lord Voldemort has been away from the world, regaining his power to come back as the most feared wizard in the world. Harry's aunt and uncle had Harry convinced that his parents died in a car crash, because they didn't want him to learn magic. They were ashamed to have wizards and witches in the family. Harry, who was only a baby when they died, believed them because he didn't remember. So when the half-giant, Hagrid, tells Harry he's a wizard, he doesn't believe it.
But he soon finds out that he's famous in the wizarding world. He is the one who caused Voldemort's downfall. He is the only known person to survive the Killing Curse. He is The Boy Who Lived. When he goes to Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he meets Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. He and Ron hit it off right away and become best friends. Hermione, on the other hand, comes off as a bossy know-it-all, and they don't like her.
After a while, they all go through many adventures together and become the three best friends that anyone could have. They have a mystery to figure out. The headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, has hidden a tiny package in the school, and somebody is after it, but they don't know who. The package contains the Sorcerer's Stone, which is a legendary object that has many desirable properties, such as granting a person immortality.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione are determined to find out who's after it. They have to endure many things getting in their path to figuring it out, including Draco Malfoy, who becomes Harry's enemy right when they meet, Severus Snape, the Potions teacher who has a hidden hatred for Harry, and all of the tests that they go through on the way there.
To find out more, I guess you'll just have to read the book!
I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone, even those who don't like reading. I personally don't care for reading, but I could not put this book down until I finished it, and it was that way until the end of the series.
i've read almost everyone of the books and this one by far is my favorite. The movies leave so much out, i rather read the books then watch the movies.
ReplyDeleteI have watched every movie of this series and i loved them all and i personally like the movies better because i just don't like to read. I've personally tried to read these books but i just can't do it. My brother has told me all about the books and he has told me that they do leave parts out but they have to do that because of time.
ReplyDeleteI've read all of the books and I was kind of bored with the first couple because i didn't think there was enough action in them. As the books went on they got a bit better, I guess I am just not a Harry Potter fan.
