South Dakota House passes bill allowing school districts to ARM TEACHERS!

This bill will allow the teachers of South Dakota to be armed with a firearm.  It was passed on Tuesday, January 29 of 2013 by the South Dakota House.  Representatives voted 42-17 to send the measure to the Senate for further debate.  This all was passed because in rural areas there is no policemen stationed in the school or school area.  So South Dakota decided to arm the teachers, administrators, and/or volunteers so that they can protect the students and themselves in case of a attacker.

Now this, honestly scares me.  So lets give a story to say why this does.  So,  Test day all the students are in class and the teacher is getting ready to give out the test.  When all the kids start to screw around.  The teacher tells them to stop but she just has no control.  Then two boys/girls get into a huge fight.  Punching, kicking and blood.  One of them knows the teacher has a gun in her/his desk. So the kid runs, grabs the gun and boom, shoot the other kid in the leg.  Huge panic fills the room.  Everything is out of control.

Yeah so that is why this scares me.  I know what you are thinking.  When will that ever happen.  Well trust me when I say, anything can happen in school.  So don't tell me that will never happen.

My second worry, I should say is training the teachers to use these firearms.  Its not a game when you press a button and it will shoot for you.  You have to have aim,  a good grip, and to know how to change the clip.  Where would these teachers train?  they cant just go out and shoot the gun, you might hit someone and there isn't a building in every town where you can shoot guns at targets.  And plus if they start training with guns, they will be tired for school or not have grades turned in.

Even though I'm stating a lot of negatives there are some positives to this.  For one there will be more protection in the schools and that will mean less deaths.  It will also help if there was a hostage situation.  Because  the teachers could come up with a plan to stop the bad guys.

Overall I think it is a bad ideal, but that is just my opinion.  I would like to hear your comments down below and see what you guys think about this.  Let me help you by giving you some questions.  First,  do you like this law or not?  Two,  if you like it why?  Three, if you don't like it why?

  1. i think this is stupid. Thats just my opinion. Teachers shouldn't be able to have guns in school. thats like if my parents gave my a gun and told me to use it if anything bad happens. What if one of the teachers "accidentally" shoots someone and misses. Or if a teacher gets really mad and pulls the gun out. Is that Ok?

    1. i agree with you. Anything can happen but i don't think the teacher will pull the gun out and aim it against the students unless they had a gun. See so many problems can happen and I just don't like it.

  4. I think this is stupid because what if a teacher freaks out and pulls the gun on a student and most of the school shooting were people that had like ADHD or something like that what if if a teacher has that and they don't take their pills. Not saying they would but what if..

  5. Honestly keeping guns in the schools is just a bad idea in general. Especially if there are kids who know how to use one and want/need one and know where the gun is at. They could easily get it out of the teachers room, especially since not all teachers lock their doors every single time they leave a classroom. It's just not a smart idea at all.

  6. Well look at it like this, i highly doupt that anyone would want to shoot up the school. And secondly the teachers would probably keep it a secret not telling anyone.
