Katie Beers'

In 1993 Katie Beers' was kidnapped and trapped for 17 days. Now she has published a book about her horrific life and kidnapping.
Katie was kidnapped at the age of 9. After she had been kidnapped she was locked in a dungeon for 17 days only living off of junk food. She had known that this dungeon existed because she used to play in it with her brother and friends as a child. The dungeon was in a house with a concrete block as the door and covered with a rug. Katie had gotten the idea that she was going to be kidnapped because she was being asked if she wanted to go to the store to get a toy or get candy by a man named John.
Also prior to this she was being abused verbally, physically, mentally, and sexually by her godmother, mother, and godfather. She loved going to school because she could get away from all that but she would only go to school about twice a week if she was lucky. She had never realised how bad her life was until after everything had happened.
Katie had been rescued and after that she was adopted into a foster home and got a boyfriend got married and has 2 kids now. The book is called "Buried Memories."

  1. This is a terrible story. You hear about kidnappings all the time, and they still don't seem real. It's crazy to think that someone could have the mindset to think it's okay to take someone's child. It's unimaginable. This paticular story reminds my of Jaycee Dugard's memoir, "A Stolen Life". She was kidnapped at a young age and not found until several years later. It would be so hard to forget all of the terrible things that happened during a kidnapping. That memory would never go away. You'd think it would be impossible to forget, but from stories I've read, it can be a forgotten tragedy. Time will eventually heal everything.
