Brooke Greenberg

I recently read the article called Scientists Work to Unravel Mystery Behind Woman Who Doesn’t Grow written by Peter Murray.  It is about a woman whose name is Brooke Greenberg.  Brooke is a twenty year old woman that hasn’t aged a bit sense she was five years old.  For the last fifteen years, Brooke has been the same size.  All the doctors are mystified and can’t even begin to explain what is happening to her.  There is a group of scientists working to figure out the mystery of Brooke’s aging disorder, or the reason why she is already a twenty year old that has the physical and mental appearance of a toddler.  As far as all the doctors and scientist looking into Brooke’s condition, Brooke is the only person in the world that has this condition.

In Brooke’s early life, there were many complications.  She had to go through many different medical emergencies.  Before she was even six years old, she had several surgeries for seven perforated stomach ulcers.  Also, she suffered a brain seizure.  That brain seizure caused her to have a stroke, but there were no lasting effects.  When she was four years old, she fell into a coma for fourteen days.  The doctors found that it was caused by a brain tumor, but by the time she woke up the tumor had disappeared. 

I find Brooke’s condition unbelievable.  I really wonder what it is like for her parents. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to have a twenty year old daughter that is still a toddler!
