A Special World
The poem under analysis is taken from the compilation of works by Sheelagh Lennon- a special world. Sheelagh Lennon was a poet who likes to write about "LOVE." Most of her works belong to the literary streams of romance. They don't only use characteristics of romance, but also about how special love is to her which adds a special feeling to Sheelagh Lennon's poetry. The poet uses a wide variety of similes such as its fingers spread like fine spun gold and like silken thread it holds us fast, and end rhyme such as me and see cocoon and womb gold and fold fast and last break and wake strong and belong, which makes her work more interesting and loving. The author hints that love is a special thing in life. Therefore, when you see people in love it brings a happy feeling to you. But when you see people getting in an argument it brings you down and makes you wonder if there's anything you can do to help them work things out. In this lovely poem Sheelagh Lennon wants us to know that "LOVE" is the special invisible bond, which keeps two people connected forever. It is the feeling that strengthens the bond between two people and keeps them together for the rest of their lives. A Special World by Sheelagh Lennon is about two people who are in love and they have very special feelings for each other that they cannot find without one another. Feelings that I have when I read this poem are happiness because these two people are in love and they have a special bond. Joyfulness also comes to my heart because God has let these two people find each other and fall in love, and that is a very special thing. Images and ideas that come to my mind are a couple sitting in a field, having a picnic and enjoying each other's company. Or, sitting on a porch swing on a nice summer day. Similes are used in this poem, when Lennon writes, "its fingers spread like fine spun gold. Another is like silken thread it holds us fast this means that threads even strong enough to hold us together as a couple, and bonds like this are meant to last." Another poetic device form this poem is an extended metaphor; Lennon is comparing her and her lover's love to a "Special World." This poem was very romantic and it caught my eyes because of the rhyming and the wording.
