Lost Love

I am analyzing Lost Love, by an unknown author.
In the poem, someone has lost their lover, presumably of a long time. It seems to be t hat he or she is going through a terrible depression, judging by line 2 where they say, "My hopes have died".  In the beginning of the poem, the person is very down, but towards the end, they seek God and are "saved" you could say.

It follows a specific rhyme scheme, which is AA, BB, CC, Etc.  The poem uses very deep emotion and imagery, so you can tell what the author is feeling.  In lines 3 & 10 they say, "existence has no reason" and "for death I long".  This shows you how much they are truly hurt.  It is a very sad poem until lines 13-14, where the author writes, "Lord give me hope; Strengthen me so I may cope".  This tells me the author knows they will get through this and have better things in front of them.

The poem is clearly about someone who lost their lover and is in a depressed state of mind.  It's a sorrowful poem.

I enjoyed the poem.  It is quite easy to understand, and does a great job of getting the point across.
