The Promise by Alon Calinao Dy

I recently read The Promise by Alon Calinao Dy.  This poem is about a guy writing to a girl during their long-distance relationship.  Int he poem, the guy promises the girl multiple things.  He apologizes for how hard it is to be happy during their relationship and promises that he will come back for her so they can be together.  He also says that if they don't end up together, he will cherish their love forever.
This poem doesn't follow a specific meter or rhyme, though some lines do rhyme.  This poem uses personification when the author writes, "this love keeps me reminding," and, "my heart longs for your love," and, "my love for you grows stronger."  The author does this to show how much this man loves the girl he is writing to.  The mood of the poem is sad and romantic.  It is sad because of the struggle this couple has with their long-distance relationship.  It also shows its sadness when the author says, "I know it isn't easy to be happy." This poem is romantic because the man promises the girl that he will find a way for them to be together.  The poem says, "I promise we'll be together someday."
To me, this poem is about a man deeply in love with his girlfriend, and, for an unknown reason they are very far away from each other.  The man promises that he will love her forever: "I promise to cherish our love forever."  He also promises that he will find a way for things to be better: "I promise to make things better for us."  This poem is about a man's commitment to be with this girl no matter how hard it can be.
I enjoyed The Promise very much!  It really touched me.  The author did an awesome job of showing the man's feelings he has for his love.  He does such a good job that I can feel the emotion behind this poem.  The Promise touched me by how romantic it is.  Alon Calinao Dy did a great job all over.
