A Better Tomorrow by Yvonne Warren

“A Better Tomorrow” by Yvonne Warren

The poem that is being analyzed is “A Better Tomorrow” by Yvonne Warren. Yvonne puts a lot of depth into this poem and a lot of meaning towards the one she loves.
The person in the poem was really having a hard time, she was really sad and felt empty, kind of depressed. Then, someone came along into her life and made things better. This person took all of the girl’s sorrow away and filled the hole in her heart. Since that person came and made everything better, the girl is saying that she will always love him because he “showed her the light.”

Yvonne uses ending rhymes. She first starts out with the poem sounding depressed and sad and almost bitter because she didn’t think there “would be a better tomorrow”. Then it turns happy because she meets this guy and he makes her happy again because she says “My days of sadness are a thing of the past” so she had obviously been sad before he came into her life. Then it turns romantic because she says since he made her feel better, she’ll love him forever because she says “And my love for you will continue to burn bright”.

When I looked up Yvonne Warren, there wasn’t really anything about her and it seemed like this was her only poem that was out there. Even though it was her only poem, I thought it was good and expressed her feelings pretty well. I chose this poem because I thought it was really emotional and I just liked it a lot because of how she portrayed things and made a unique story out of it.
