Boy Suspended For Making Pretend Gun Out Of Pop-Tart

One morning, 7-year-old Josh Welch was eating a pop tart when he noticed it looked like the shape of a gun.  Being a little second grader, he imagined he was shooting something and said "bang, bang!".  A teacher heard him and thought it was a threat.  Josh was sent to the office and suspended for two days.  Josh's dad was called and every kid in the class was sent home with a note saying that Josh had made an "inappropriate gesture with food".
I think this is a ridiculous story.  The poor kid was just playing around.  In my opinion, the school authorities should be worrying about the actual bullying and threats that are probably going on in the school rather than a harmless second grader and a breakfast food.  I feel sorry for the little kid because he was probably really embarrassed for doing something that every little  boy does at one point in their childhood.

  1. I feel like this went way too far as well. He is just a little kid and he doesn't know better. I don't understand how people are getting bullied and nothing happens to resolve it, but yet this happens and is cured in the matter of seconds. I feel extremely bad for this boy and wish this never happened to him.

  2. I think that the school went to far with the boys punishment of his pretend gun. For all we know he was just sitting there munching on his pop tart, minding his own business. He made sound affects like any 7year old boy does, and he gets suspended for two days. Which back when I was in 2nd grade all I got was a slip pulled. I think the schools are taking that kind of stuff to far. The fact the school sent every child home in that class with a note saying what Josh had done will probably make the parents say their child can't be friends with him anymore.
I think a good punishment would of been two slips pulled. I bet Josh won't want to eat pop tarts anymore...

  3. I think its extremely wrong when schools are going after second grades because he ate a pop tart and pretended it was a gun. My little brother is in second grade and he plays around all the time pretending he's a soldier, or superhero, or a wrestler its not the kids fault the don't know any better.

  4. I have to agree with the kid getting in trouble, but suspending him is just outragous. After all the school shoot in Newtown, I don't think guns or any weapons will ever be looked at the same and pretty soon I think they (the government) will be trying to take the citizens guns and rights. If it comes to that, I wouldn't let them take my guns because I inherited them from my grandpa and I wouldn't let anything be taken from me without a fight.
