My Rescue by Erin

The poem under analysis is My Rescue by Erin. The author of this poem writes about their affection for running. They give life to the track and explain its importance of running to the author.

In the poem My Rescue the author compares the track to magnetic tape. It pulls the author back every day, even on the days they don’t want to. The track is also compared to a person or society. The poem says “It never talks back nor says I’m stupid. Its always there for every stride and every cry.” I think the author may have had trouble with a friend or family member. I think running and the track is the author’s sanctuary, their place to be free and escape the world. “It is the cure to all pain”,here is another example of the tack being their sanctuary.

The author does a lot of figurative language in the poem. “Its like some kind of magnetic tape. Day after day, it pulls me back.” The track is being compared to a magnet. A track can’t literally pull someone back. There isn’t a magnetic field to it. “It cures all pain and the rescue from all fear.” This statement is kind of ironic because running can cause pain, and people run away in fear. The last lines also have figurative language in them. “It never talks back nor says I’m stupid. Its always there for every stride and every cry.” The track can’t literally speak to her.

I really liked this poem for two reasons. One, I actually understood it and know what it’s saying. Two, I am in track and run on the track everyday after school. I don’t think of running as an escape for pain, because it gives me some problems. I don’t really agree with her, but maybe when I’m older running will be my escape. This poem was very good and easy to understand. I believe it gave a powerful message. Their purpose has been fulfilled.

Poem Analysis of A Car

The poem A Car by an unknown author is a poem of a person who doesn’t care what kind of car they have or how fast it goes. The color, extra features or accessories is not a priority to the author. The author will give it “hotly showers”. Whether be it a personalised eight seater stretch limousine or a Ferrari with an exploding roaring engine.

I believe to the author a car is nothing more than a way of transportation.  “I’ll give it hotly showers”, I think he means he will leave it in the sun not worrying about protecting it from the suns harmful rays. “As long as it can move from junction to junction”, the author just wants it to be driveable and reliable.

This poem, to me, is a repetition poem because the author repeats “A car is a car” several times so the reader is informed that a car is nothing special to the author.

I believe this poem was written to show that cars are nothing special. All they do is get you to places faster than walking or riding bikes. “As long as it can move from junction to junction” is a good example of how the writer feels on what the car is supposed to do.

Sonnet Analysis

My Poem Analysis

Italian Sonnet written by James DeFord is the poem being analyzed.  This poem is about a young man trying to convince this girl to give him another chance.  The girl has broken the heart of this writer, and he is begging her to give him another chance with him. This writer is feeling really depressed and alone. This girl turned him down and broke his heart. This story is just him asking the girl to give him another chance and the reasons she should do this.  This poem shows imagery because he said in the poem “give back your kissing breathe” which is like he is asking for her to give back the breath which she used to kiss him with earlier.  He is asking her to come back and kiss him again. The poem continued throughout with the guy begging for a second chance and then one strong last line at the end for his final plea.

This poem has rhyming but has a non distinctive pattern.  The poem’s rhyme pattern is  ABBAACCADEDFAA.  It used a hyperbole in the following words, “ kissing breathe”.  Most of this poem is imagery.  For example, witted roses, kissing breathe, great strength, and broken heart.  The mood is the same in each stanza.  The mood is a mixed feeling of sadness and hopefulness.  

     I think that this poem is a regular love story like everyday love, but it has much more passion in it.  It takes a lot of courage to try and convince someone to take you back when the final result might not be what you wanted it to be.  I felt the poem was easy to understand because it is a typical love story and the wording was easy, but it came from the heart, and that also helped make it easy to understand.  I think the author should have had a distinctive pattern instead of jumping all over the place.  It would've made the poem more complex and more interesting.  I really liked the topic, and I feel the author has done a good job reflecting his feelings in words.  

    I enjoyed this poem.  It brought a new element to a love poem by talking about getting one more chance and why that person should take him back.  It was very easy to understand. I feel depressed sometimes that he missed out at love.  The authors background is that he used to be a cop.  But then he was arrested for child porn, 2 counts of it.  If you read the poem knowing his background, the last four lines really base on his crime.  Him being a cop then becoming a criminal is just sad.  I pick this poem because it was good but knowing his background made me think of the meaning of this poem differently.

Friendship Simile

Friendship Simile

The poem under analysis is “Friendship Simile.”  It is by an anonymous author. The poem compares friendship to a parachute in the form of a simile.  It does not have any rhyme scheme or meter. It is a free verse poem, there is no specific structure. The main simile in the poem “A friend is like a parachute,” which is the first line of the poem.  It goes on the give examples about how the two are alike in the rest of the poem.  The next two lines say “it can’t stop you from falling” and “but it can lighten your landing.”  I think this means that just like a parachute gives you a nice landing when you hit the ground, friends can help you out in your time of need or make things easier for you.

The rest of the poem goes on to say that you have to help your friends just like they help you.  The poem says “Friends may not always be there to lighten your mood, They get old, And grow holes, And wither to nothing more than a memory, Unless  you take care of them.”  I think that the author is trying to say that a friend isn’t always going to be there for you if you aren’t going to be there for them, too.  So the poem ends by saying “Patch the holes, Keep them beautiful because just like friends, parachutes need love.”  So just like a parachute is no good without holes, a friendship doesn’t work holes, or problems either.  

I liked the poem.  I never would have thought of a parachute and a friendship being alike, but I like the idea and how the author compared them.  They are both there for you when you need them the most, and they both need to be cared for in return.  I think the poem was pretty good and easy to understand and an all around nice poem.

Love and Hate

Poem Analysis

The poem under analysis is Love and Hate by an amateur poet, Tyler Tyger. The poem compares the strong feelings of differences in life between “Love” and “Hate,” and paints a picture in your head, using a variety of figurative language, similes and metaphors, of exactly how strong the feelings are.

First of all, the author compares “Love” to many things that appeal to people's senses like a warm summers day, a wildflower that is rare and pretty or even like chocolate - unhealthy but good. Also compares “Hate” to things that people just dread to think about such as hate being compared to a jail cell being cold and strange, a black hole consuming all that is good and even like a roaring fire. The first simile the author uses is “Love is like a warm summers day, down by the meadow, ready to play. Hate is like a bitter winter night, frost bite creeping through the windows biting your toes.” This shows the general idea how people tend to enjoy summer days and nights with warm weather more than the cold winter nights that you seem to be able to feel at night. The comparisons give you the strength of both love and hate that can fulfill a life. Another simile used is “Hate is like a hurricane, rough, unruly and painful” and it speaks strongly because so much can be lost in a hurricane. Whether it is family members, friends, a town or just personal belongings that are lost hate can also do the same things and destroy so many friendships or others turn their back to you because what you’ve done. Hate does absolutely no good!

I think that the feelings of “Love” and “Hate” were described perfectly and how one moment love can make you feel like you are on top of the world and nothing could bring you down, but then that moment turns to hate it is like “a dull day, never fading away”. You live with the feeling of hate longer than the feeling of love can keep you atop. I enjoyed the poem and the poet did a fantastic job describing how strong feelings can be in both “Love” and “Hate”.

War and Peace

War and Peace

          The poem War and Peace by Cam T. is about someone who doesn't like war because they see it as a fire, destruction, and a murder. The mood of the poem is mostly sad. I think this because the last line states, "my mind forces me to war, but my heart desires peace". Which I think means that he wants peace, but he's kind of sad or maybe mad that war seems to be the only way to do so. 

This poem doesn’t follow any particular rhyme scheme but throughout the poem some alternate rhyme does occur. War and Peace uses mostly similes throughout the poem.

Some similes were, “peace is like a puzzle, confusing, tough to complete”. I think this stanza means that finding peace is very hard to do. There is always some sort of disagreement or dispute that is hard to overcome. Another simile is, “war is like destruction, peace is the ability to cope”. This means to me that war tends to ruin everything in its path. It destroys people, land, and other things. But peace is the only thing that keeps some going in a war. It is seen that war is the only way to obtain peace which helps some cope with the point that innocent people are dying just because of this war. They see peace as your reason to keep going.

Another stanza states, “peace is like a lion, majestic but trapped in a cage”. I think this means that peace can be very powerful like a lion, but during war it seems like it’s impossible to get, like it’s “trapped in a cage”.

Another simile in this poem is, “war is as dark as murder, killing everyday.” I think this means that war is really no different than murder. You may kill people in war for a different reason than why people commit murder, but in the end, innocent people are being killed.

One stanza states, “my mind forces me to war, but my heart desires peace”. I think this means that even people serving in the war may not like what they do really, but they realize that they are doing it for a reason. Even though a lot of the time they just want peace among everyone.

I personally liked this poem because it reminds you of what is going on in the world that you probably don’t even think about. It makes you think about how there are people out there fighting for your freedom even though they might not like everything about their job. This is something I think a lot of us take for granted.

A Friend Is Like A...

A Friend Is Like A...

    The poem I read about is called “A Friend Is Like A...” by Adrianne Goft.  I think the poem is intended for anyone who has a good friendship with someone else.  It has a lot of similes throughout the entire poem.  The poem also has a distinct rhyme scheme.  Every other line rhymes with the next.

    The poem is broken up into seven sections of two lines of poetry.  Each section compares a friendship to something that surrounds us in our everyday life.  The first two sections compare friendship to a rose, and I think that is because roses are a simple flower that everyone can associate with.  Then it suggests friendship being a gate that “never comes unlatched” because it explains how strong the bonds of friendship can be.

    The third and fourth sections compare how a friendship can be “both beautiful and wise” just like an owl.  It, then, considers friendship being a ghost, whose “spirit never dies” just like unending friendships.

    The next section talks about friendship like “the grass you can never seem to mow”, because some friendships are unbreakable.  It also compares friendship to a heart becomes the heart is really strong and beats for a long time.  The last two lines really define friendship by just stating the fact in questioning “where would we've in this world if we didn’t have a friend?”

     I think that as a reader, you begin to think about a good friendship with someone in your life while reading this poem.  Readers can connect to such things like "you can never seem to mow" or "a brand new gate that never comes unlatched".  Personally, I can relate to the poem by relating the phrases to a friendship of my own, and seeing how the lines describe my own friendship, and I think many other readers will begin to make the same connection I did while reading the poem

     I really enjoyed this poem for various reasons.  I really liked how it rhymed, because poems are easier for me to get into if they rhyme, and they seem to understand and are catchier.  I also liked the fact that the author used so many similes.  The things that the author was comparing friendship to were just really relatable and easy to understand.  Lastly, I enjoyed how simple the poem was.  It said what it needed to in a short amount of time and expressed the right feelings in a simply way.
