My poem analysis of "My Hero" by Keri starts at a dark time. Everybody has gone, or will go, through some sort of dark time in their life. I believe the hero in this poem had helped the author get through a struggle and now holds a special place in the author's heart.
As it says,
"You helped me see the light.
When I had no eyes,
You saved me, and you were my sight."
Also, with that being said, it is clear that the hero in this poem made an impact on the author's life as well. To prove this opinion, a stanza was written that says,
"But friend, I tell you, you are a hero."
There was a little blurp above the poem that mentioned what the poem was described as for the author and to whom she dedicated the poem to, and what the purpose of creating this poem was all about. It says the author wrote the poem "describing how I feel about certain people in my life. This poem is dedicated to all those unsung heroes out there who don't consider themselves a hero, yet people in their life do."
I chose this poem because while I was reading it, someone special, who also doesn't consider herself to be a hero, came acrossed my mind. That was my mom.
My family and I, two months ago, went through what we were all wishing would be a terrible nightmare-but it wasn't. That was a DARK time in our life. Even though I had lost my dad, my mom lost her best friend, her soulmate, her husband. During the time my mom should have been grieving the loss, she was busy doing business with our landlords and making plans for a farm sale, as well as meeting with her lawyer. We were living in a whirlwind, and even though I was blessed to face the fact that it would be a while before I see my dad, she couldn't. She was given no time to grieve. Instead she would wipe my eyes, and give me comfort, but I don't think she ever felt what I felt. She was just so strong through it all! That to me, is being a hero-having someone go though the same situation as you, but while you're crying, they're wiping your tears and giving you strength. My mom is definitely considered to be "My Hero."

A Special World By Sheelagh Lennon
A Special World
The poem under analysis is taken from the compilation of works by Sheelagh Lennon- a special world. Sheelagh Lennon was a poet who likes to write about "LOVE." Most of her works belong to the literary streams of romance. They don't only use characteristics of romance, but also about how special love is to her which adds a special feeling to Sheelagh Lennon's poetry. The poet uses a wide variety of similes such as its fingers spread like fine spun gold and like silken thread it holds us fast, and end rhyme such as me and see cocoon and womb gold and fold fast and last break and wake strong and belong, which makes her work more interesting and loving. The author hints that love is a special thing in life. Therefore, when you see people in love it brings a happy feeling to you. But when you see people getting in an argument it brings you down and makes you wonder if there's anything you can do to help them work things out. In this lovely poem Sheelagh Lennon wants us to know that "LOVE" is the special invisible bond, which keeps two people connected forever. It is the feeling that strengthens the bond between two people and keeps them together for the rest of their lives. A Special World by Sheelagh Lennon is about two people who are in love and they have very special feelings for each other that they cannot find without one another. Feelings that I have when I read this poem are happiness because these two people are in love and they have a special bond. Joyfulness also comes to my heart because God has let these two people find each other and fall in love, and that is a very special thing. Images and ideas that come to my mind are a couple sitting in a field, having a picnic and enjoying each other's company. Or, sitting on a porch swing on a nice summer day. Similes are used in this poem, when Lennon writes, "its fingers spread like fine spun gold. Another is like silken thread it holds us fast this means that threads even strong enough to hold us together as a couple, and bonds like this are meant to last." Another poetic device form this poem is an extended metaphor; Lennon is comparing her and her lover's love to a "Special World." This poem was very romantic and it caught my eyes because of the rhyming and the wording.

Poem analysis
"For the Love of My Life" ~ Anonymous
"For the Love of My Life" ~ Anonymous
“For the Love of My Life” depicts the life of a recently widowed man or woman. The poet began by showing us a sense of loss the man/woman was feeling by saying “...And now when I think of you all I do is cry." The poet continues the poem by giving us an insight of what their life was like by mentioning “...The things you taught me the world will never know," and “...You taught me strength, you taught me courage. You taught me love and gave me knowledge."
This poem is that of a rhyming poem, with end rhymes only. The poem contains twelve fairly long lines with an end rhyme scheme pattern of AABB. The poem is built in three stanzas with each containing four lines. The line “...You left a message on my heart” stands out to me for you can’t really leave a message on a human heart, but I’m curious if it is a specific form of a poetic figure, or if it was just some creative writing. The mood of the first and second stanzas seems to be that of a sad feeling, one that is possibly depressed with a sense of loss. We can tell this for the poem says things like "And now when I think of you all I do is cry."
But as the third paragraph goes on, it begins to switch to a happier note, for even though the poet’s loved one has passed, he/she made him/her smile even through the hardest of times and he/she realized he/she is going to a better and happier place.
The poem doesn’t seem to have huge complicated phrases, so I believe I have a pretty good grasp on the poem at hand. I believe the poem describes a woman and a man who had to part for natural causes. And although they probably knew the time was coming, the precise time and hour was unpredictable. So because of that lack of knowledge, one mate passed away before the other could say goodbye. From there I believe the widowed husband/wife tells us how much he/she meant to him/her. He/she tells us what their life together was like. He/she then says things along the lines of even though you hurt me, and I you at times in our life, I love you. Always did, always have, and always will.
Poetic language is not a great factor, but there are a few lines inserted in. "You left a message on my heart" as an idiom as well as "You helped me turn my life around." There aren't any similes or metaphors, nor are there any personifications.
I believe the poet was trying to get his/her readers to understand that couples fight, and we eventually do die. But when we go, we need to know that there were no loose ends, no regrets. I believe that he/she succeeded very well in achieving this idea.
Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou
The poem under analysis is Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou. In this poem the author is often describing her features such as “the reach of my arms” and “the span of my hips.” She goes on to tell how people react to her and what they think of her. She specifically mentions how men react to her. They do things such as “swarm around me” and “wonder what they see in me.” She then explains that “I’m a woman phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, that’s me.”
Each stanza in Phenomenal Woman has the same structure. Each stanza starts by describing the author’s situation or how people act towards her. In the middle of the stanza she lists a variety of her features like her arms, hips, step, and lips. The last four lines of every stanza say “I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me.” The author uses fairly simple descriptions and uses minimal use of figurative language. One example of a metaphor is the author describing men crowding her by saying they are “A hive of honey bees.” Another example of a metaphor would be the author referring to her beauty as her “inner mystery” and “where my secret lies.” I think that she includes these metaphors because they explain the struggle that people have trying to understand what makes her beautiful. She is trying to explain that it will always be an "inner mystery" to other people because there isn't a certain thing that she does to make her beautiful.
In my opinion, the objective of this poem was to say that even though this author in beautiful and every man wants to meet her, it isn’t because of what she has done to herself, but because she has always strived to be only her herself. I believe that this poem can help women find that they are phenomenal just by being themselves. With this being said, the mood of the entire poem was an encouraging mood and it was trying to lift up others by making them look at the good in themselves.Lost Love
I am analyzing Lost Love, by an unknown author.
In the poem, someone has lost their lover, presumably of a long time. It seems to be t hat he or she is going through a terrible depression, judging by line 2 where they say, "My hopes have died". In the beginning of the poem, the person is very down, but towards the end, they seek God and are "saved" you could say.
It follows a specific rhyme scheme, which is AA, BB, CC, Etc. The poem uses very deep emotion and imagery, so you can tell what the author is feeling. In lines 3 & 10 they say, "existence has no reason" and "for death I long". This shows you how much they are truly hurt. It is a very sad poem until lines 13-14, where the author writes, "Lord give me hope; Strengthen me so I may cope". This tells me the author knows they will get through this and have better things in front of them.
The poem is clearly about someone who lost their lover and is in a depressed state of mind. It's a sorrowful poem.
I enjoyed the poem. It is quite easy to understand, and does a great job of getting the point across.

Footprints in the Sand
I recently read a poem called Footprints in the Sand by Mary Stevenson. The poem is about a man or woman (doesn’t specifically name) who is reminiscing about her past. She/he asks God why she/he was left to suffer. The poem doesn’t rhyme but it has a lot of meaning in it. The mood is inspiring especially at the end.
Mary Stevenson was born November 8, 1922 in Chester, Philadelphia. She had written Footprints in the Sand during her teen years and was only able to prove it was hers in the 1950s. Read more about it on the Official website: Here. You can read the poem on the site as well.I think in the first stanza “One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the lord, scenes of my life flashed across the sky, In each scene I noticed a set of footprints” could mean that she is thinking back on her life and noticing the ups and downs. Like she would look up at the sky and just reminisce about the things she had done did.She also feels neglected and alone during the times she need someone. Asking God as to why she was left to suffer when she said she would follow Him. When she says “The Lord replied The times when you have seen only one set of footprints is when I carried you” means that God was there the whole time through all her hardships. God carried her burdens and helped her through the worst. Carrying her burdens when she felt alone and saw only one set of footprints. I think the author is trying to say that God will always be there, when she says “the times when you have seen only one set of footprints is when I carried you.” I think the poem makes me feel as if there will always be somebody there to carry me through hardships.Thursday, April 18, 2013
The Promise by Alon Calinao Dy
I recently read The Promise by Alon Calinao Dy. This poem is about a guy writing to a girl during their long-distance relationship. Int he poem, the guy promises the girl multiple things. He apologizes for how hard it is to be happy during their relationship and promises that he will come back for her so they can be together. He also says that if they don't end up together, he will cherish their love forever.
This poem doesn't follow a specific meter or rhyme, though some lines do rhyme. This poem uses personification when the author writes, "this love keeps me reminding," and, "my heart longs for your love," and, "my love for you grows stronger." The author does this to show how much this man loves the girl he is writing to. The mood of the poem is sad and romantic. It is sad because of the struggle this couple has with their long-distance relationship. It also shows its sadness when the author says, "I know it isn't easy to be happy." This poem is romantic because the man promises the girl that he will find a way for them to be together. The poem says, "I promise we'll be together someday."
To me, this poem is about a man deeply in love with his girlfriend, and, for an unknown reason they are very far away from each other. The man promises that he will love her forever: "I promise to cherish our love forever." He also promises that he will find a way for things to be better: "I promise to make things better for us." This poem is about a man's commitment to be with this girl no matter how hard it can be.
I enjoyed The Promise very much! It really touched me. The author did an awesome job of showing the man's feelings he has for his love. He does such a good job that I can feel the emotion behind this poem. The Promise touched me by how romantic it is. Alon Calinao Dy did a great job all over.
