LeBron vs. Bryant

LeBron James and Kobe Bryant have tried to out-do each other from the start.  Is Kobe good enough to outscore, rebound, or assist more than James in a game?  Kobe is known to be one of the best rebounding guards in the league, with an average of 5.3 boards to go with his 25.5 pointer per game for his career.  James, by comparison, is also a very good rebounder for his position.  He has grabbed 7.2 a night for his career to go along with 26.9 points.  James and Bryant are similar in their rebounding and scoring.  They are very different on their assists though.  LeBron has 6.9 assists while Kobe has only 4.7.  Bryant has a kind of selfishness while he drives.  James has been set with the task as point-forward.  For the past 16-plus years Bryant’s role was to score.  So what he did was score, now that is not his role.  Since Bryant has taken over the point-guard duties, the Lakers are 5-1 and Bryant is averaging 16.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 10.2 assists.  He has gone over the 20-point mark just once.  This is the first time in Bryant’s career that he has been given a full-time playmaker and part-time scorer. 

            Bryant has two inches on Kobe, but he is a lean bull whereas Bryant is extremely lanky. 

            Kobe has always been able to score and rebound, so has James.  We’ve also known he is very good as passing the ball, whereas James is not.  James is averaging seven assists while hoisting up 18.7 field-goal attempts per game.  This gives him an assist-to-field-goal ratio of 0.37.  Bryant is at 21.1 shots a night and 5.4 assists.  Bryant’s ratio is 0.26.  Yet he has been an active scorer.  His only task is committing himself to running the offense over the whole game period.  

Skeleton Found Under Parking Lot!

As I was looking for something to blog about, I found a very interesting article of a skeleton that was found under a parking lot! How odd?! The article never really did make a clear explanation of why scientists felt the need to dig in the parking lot for the skeleton, but they did! Anyway, as scientists started to do DNA tests the results came out that the skeleton was King Richard III! What was very neat to me, was that he died in 1485, and yet technology today found two of Richard's modern-day descendents! One, is an unknown donor, and the second is a 17th generation descendent of Richard's oldest sister, Anne of York!

Anyway, there were very amazing stories about King Richard III, and how scientists think he died! There's also little opinions of King Richard III's past, and it was just so cool! Divers helped a Dolphin

I recently read an article about a dolphin in hawaii. A Dolphin near Hawaii couldn't swim away. Divers  saw the dolphin. The dolphin asked for help. The dolphin pushed into one of the divers. They understood that he needed help. There was fishing line on the dolphin. The dolphin was relaxed. it didn't panic. The diver could help it and when the dolphin could swim easily, it went up. It needed some air, but then it came back.

President Obama Pushes Gun Control in Minnesota

Today, President Obama traveled all the way from Washington D.C. to Minneapolis on Air Force One to attempt to push new gun laws. One thing that is included is the extensive background checks on gun buyers. A lot of people are asking why he needed to make the trip all the way to Minnesota to make his speech. The White House has tried to make it clear that the reason for the long trip was because Minnesota officials have made extensive steps to stop gun violence. The Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to make a new legislation that includes President Obama's idea of background checks.
I think the President's ideas for background checks is a great on because it doesn't include getting rid of the gun population completely, but we aren't giving guns out to whoever has the money to buy one. Our country has suffered enough over the past year because of shootings and it is time to take the time to protect ourselves from harmful people. Although this might still not be the most efficient way to know if someone is planning to harm people with the gun that they buy, it is a start to help prevent the loss of innocent people in America. power outage during super bowl

It was not New Orleans’s brightest moment.  About 90 seconds into the second half of Sunday’s Super Bowl, the lights on one half of the Superdome’s roof suddenly went out.  Internet connections in the press box were cut, and the scoreboards went dark.  The roughly 35-minute power failure, which came just moments after the Ravens’ Jacoby Jones returned the second-half kickoff 108 yards for a touchdown, was one of the oddest moments in Super Bowl history.  N.F.L. wanted to signal that the city was back in business after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.  The Superdome, which was turned into an emergency shelter after the storm, had been overhauled and rebranded through to a sponsorship deal with Mercedes-Benz.  The blackout is certain to add to the legend of the Superdome.  Some New Orleans residents believe the building is cursed because it was built near the old Girod Street Cemetery, which had fallen into disrepair.  Some Saints fans believe this is why their team was unsuccessful for so long.

Either way, the N.F.L., which runs the Super Bowl with an iron hand and brutal efficiency, is not used to random events during games, which are tightly scripted for television networks and the hundreds of millions of viewers at home.  Two years ago, hundreds of fans were denied entry to the game in Arlington, Texas, because temporary stands were not safe.  Weather has been unpredictable over the years, but rarely are games delayed for anything more than the occasional hiccup.  Michael Burns, a spokesman for Entergy Services, the local utility, said that his company’s distribution and transmission feeders that serve the Superdome were never interrupted.  Power did not go out elsewhere in the city. CBS, which broadcast the game, said in a statement that it had “lost numerous cameras and some audio powered by sources in the Superdome.” The network switched to backup power and remained on the air.  CBS said it would honor all its commercial commitments. What do you think of all this excitement during the super bowl? If you were one of the several people sitting in the dark for a half hour? With no power you probably couldn't get any concession at the concession stands because it take power to cook the food and run the cash registers. 

The Choice by Nicholas Sparks

I just finished the book The Choice by Nicholas Sparks.  After finishing it, I can say that it is one of my favorite Nicholas Sparks books!  Guys probably wouldn't like it very much because it is a love story, but girls will love it!
This book is about a girl named Gabby who moves into Beaufort, North Carolina.  Her next door neighbor is Travis Parker.  Gabby has a boyfriend, but she still is very attracted to Travis.  Travis has had many girlfriends in the past, but something always seems to be missing.  When Travis is with Gabby, nothing is missing anymore.  Gabby loves her boyfriend, but he hasn't proposed yet after dating for years which makes Gabby think he won't commit.  Whenever Gabby talks to Travis, everything feels easy and right.  Travis always knows how to say the right things. Throughout one weekend, they spend a lot of time together talking about their childhood and their lives.  In just that one weekend, they know that they love eachother.  Gabby is faced with a choice between Travis and her boyfriend.  Gabby has always planned on marrying her current boyfriend, but she loves Travis.  Throughout the book, Travis and Gabby deal with their love and the many choices they face together.  The greatest choice is how far they would go for love.
My favorite part of the book is the ending because you know that everything is the way it was supposed to be.  No matter what happened through the book, there is a happy ending.

Harry Potter Goblet of Fire

I am reading the Harry Potter series, and I have never watched the movies so every book is a surprise to me! I love that I haven't watched any of the movies, I am really looking forward to watching the movies once I am done. The fourth book of the series is about Harry being in the Triwizard Tournament.

Young wizards such as Harry, at his age, cannot qualify to be in the Triwizard Tournament, but some how his name got put into the Goblet of Fire. As you can imagine, of course, his name was chosen to be one of the people in the tournament. Throughout Harry's years at Hogwarts, (the school where the story takes place, and where Harry goes to school) he has had to fight off Lord Voldemort. Lord Voldemort is an evil wizard that took over some of the wizard world thirteen years prior to this year.

When Lord Voldemort went to attack Harry, when he was just a baby, Harry took away his powers, once Lord Voldemort put the spell on Harry. Because this happened, Lord Voldemort went into hiding, every year at Hogwarts he has tried to kill Harry for what he had done to him. Of course, Harry escapes every time.

Throughout Harry's fourth year at Hogwarts, he has had to compete in the tournament. He has to go through three tasks to be the ultimate champion. Many things happen in this book, that you will have to find out! What do you think will happen? I encourage everyone to read the Harry Potter series. This author does an awesome job of foreshadowing events that will soon happen later in the book. I love every one of the books I have read so far! I hope after reading this, it will make you want to read the series as well!
